Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been officially named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for the 2025-2026 season. The announcement came during the NFL Honors ceremony tonight, just two days before Super Bowl LX kicks off in Santa Clara. Stafford, who led the league in passing yards and touchdown-to-interception ratio, accepted the award with a heartfelt speech thanking his teammates and family.
Stafford’s victory marks a historic late-career surge for the veteran signal-caller, who many thought might retire after last season’s injury scares. Instead, he orchestrated one of the most prolific passing seasons in NFL history, leading the Rams back to the postseason with a series of dramatic fourth-quarter comebacks. His ability to navigate complex defenses has set a new standard for veteran play in the modern era.
During his acceptance speech, Stafford addressed rumors regarding his future, definitively vowing to return to the Rams next season. This statement silenced speculation that he might walk away from the game regardless of the MVP outcome. The crowd, filled with NFL legends and current stars, gave the quarterback a standing ovation for his resilience and longevity.
The MVP race was tight, with several young quarterbacks and a standout wide receiver also in the running. However, Stafford’s consistency in high-pressure situations and his leadership in a young Rams locker room gave him the edge among voters. Analysts are now debating where this season ranks among the all-time great performances by a quarterback over the age of 35.
As the ceremony concluded, Stafford’s focus shifted back to his role as an ambassador for the game during Super Bowl week. While he isn't playing in this year's big game, his presence in Santa Clara has been a major storyline. The MVP trophy serves as a crowning achievement for a player who spent years in Detroit before finding championship glory and individual accolades in Los Angeles.
