Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) has officially announced a landmark collaboration with Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) to integrate legendary racing DNA into the AFEELA electric vehicle. This partnership introduces a digital "theme" based on the 1965 Honda RA272, the car that earned Honda its first Formula One victory.
The AFEELA sedan will now feature a specialized meter cluster, ambient lighting, and "Media Bar" displays that mimic the cockpit of the RA272. Beyond visuals, the collaboration includes a revolutionary "e-Motor Sound" system. This system uses acoustic samples of the historic RA272 V12 engine to provide an immersive, high-performance auditory experience for EV drivers.
This move signals SHM’s commitment to "Co-Creation," allowing partners to build personalized mobility experiences. By merging motorsport heritage with Sony's digital entertainment prowess, the AFEELA aims to redefine the emotional connection between driver and electric machine. Chairman Yasuhide Mizuno emphasized that this DNA merger is vital for the brand's 2026 launch.
The technology behind the sound recreation was developed alongside Polyphony Digital, the creators of Gran Turismo. By recording an operational RA272 at the Mobility Resort Motegi, engineers have ensured that the sound responds in real-time to the driver's accelerator inputs. This creates a bridge between the analog racing past and the digital electric future.
