HYUNDAI CELEBRATES 40 YEARS IN USA WITH IONIQ 9 LAUNCH

Hyundai Motor America is marking its 40th anniversary of operations in the United States, tracing back to the sale of the first Hyundai Excel in 1986. To celebrate, the company has officially launched the 2026 IONIQ 9, its flagship three-row electric SUV, signaling a move toward premium electrification.

The IONIQ 9 is the culmination of Hyundai's "Progress for Humanity" vision. Built at the new "Metaplant America" in Georgia, the vehicle features an ultra-spacious interior and advanced AI-powered safety systems. It is expected to be a major competitor to the Kia EV9 and Rivian R1S in the burgeoning family EV segment.

Hyundai’s journey from a budget brand to a technology leader is a central theme of the anniversary. The company highlighted that eight of its current models, including the 2026 Elantra and Sonata, have earned the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award. This focus on safety has been a cornerstone of their American growth strategy.

In addition to passenger cars, Hyundai is expanding its "XCIENT" hydrogen fuel cell truck fleet in the U.S. This aligns with their commitment to carbon neutrality by 2045. The company is currently investing $26 billion through 2028 in U.S. manufacturing, R&D, and emerging technologies like robotics.

The anniversary event also focused on the dealer network, which now exceeds 855 independent locations. Hyundai’s CEO emphasized that the next 40 years will be defined by software-defined vehicles (SDVs). This includes over-the-air updates that improve vehicle performance and entertainment features long after purchase.
